날카롭지만 쓰디쓰고, 격렬하면서 고통스런 인식이 아침 나절의 나를 휘감았다. 운명에 투덜거리는 것이 멍청함의 또 다른 징후라는 사실을 모르지 않았다면 크게 소리라도 질렀을 정도의 참담함이 가슴 속 깊은 곳까지 밀어 닥쳤다. 'deadlock'이라는 단어 외에 적절한 단어가 생각나지 않는다. 통찰력은 지혜의 정화지만 동시에 슬픔의 원천이며 그렇기에 자신은 운명의 방관자가 되어버렸노라고 아페르티프로 보기에는 지나친 몇 순배의 술잔과 함께 독백을 일삼던 시시한 소설의 쓰러져가는 한 인물이 생각난다. 그리고 나 역시 그 같은 인물로 늙고 그와 같은 epitaph를 가지게 되겠지?
